Mississippi Soccer Association KidSafe Policy:
1. Purpose - The U S Youth Soccer KidSafe program is designed to promote the welfare of youth players and to protect volunteer coaches, program administrators and the organization.
a. To identify all coaches
b. To develop and communicate the KidSafe guidelines to all coaches and program administrators
c. To monitor the implementation of the above objectives.
2. Intent - It is the intent of USYS and its affiliated organizations to exclude from participation in USYS activities, at a minimum, all persons who have been charged of crimes of violence or crimes against persons. Further, it is the intent of the MSA membership to exclude any one charged and/or convicted of any other violation of the law that the MSA Executive Council deems detrimental to the health and safety of the players, including those outlined in the MSA Criminal Conviction Matrix
3. Program elements - The U S Youth Soccer KidSafe program seeks to:
a. Foster safe circumstances for every person, and especially every child who participates in all US Youth Soccer affiliated activity.
b. Inform all U S Youth Soccer volunteers and employees concerning the risks associated with youth programs
Mississippi Soccer Association KidSafe Risk Management Procedure Timeline:
1. Organization requests KidSafe Materials
2. Leagues insure that all coaches and volunteers sign KidSafe Form Failure to complete form is grounds for immediate removal from any activities within the sanction of Mississippi Soccer Association.
3. The League Registrar completes the KidSafe verification fields on the Logical Solutions League Organizer Software. The Registration Disk is sent to Mississippi Soccer Association as required. It is the local organization’s responsibility to insure that all coaches, volunteers or anyone else that would be left alone with children, complete and sign a KidSafe Disclosure Form.
4. All leagues shall comply with the Mississippi Soccer Association KidSafe program with it's own Risk Management Coordinator. Unless otherwise notified, the league Registrar is KidSafe Coordinator by default.

13 things your League can do to reduce the risk of sexual exploitation of children:
1. Never fill your coaching slots with a "warm body". Check background, experience and history of a volunteer.
2. Don't allow an adult of come, unsolicited, into your league solely to coach children of a particular gender or age.
3. Create structure where multiple adults share responsibility for the well being of each team.
4. Follow up on players who leave a team without explanation. Minimally, a phone call asking about the reasons is essential.
5. Educate parents about the expectation that they will raise issues to the coach or club to assure that issues are properly addressed.
6. Have a strong and vigorously enforced rule prohibiting fraternization.
7. Prohibit gift giving by volunteers that is excessively lavish or is not equal amongst the entire team.
8. If there is a concern about the motives of a new or unfamiliar coach, consider asking more experienced coach to co-coach for a few sessions with the coach and to mentor the new coach.
9. Require all team travel to be preceded by a plan for lodging, supervision and other details, and to be signed by all parents and players.
10. No club volunteer should be alone in the front seat of a vehicle with a child who is not part of his or her family or household.
11. Avoid being isolated with a child, or leaving a player unsupervised.
12. Do not let volunteers who are not approved by Mississippi Soccer Association risk management be active in your league.
13. Check local police agencies for a list of convicted sex offenders before and after each session.

A RISK MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
US Youth Soccer KidSafe Program...is a program to foster safe circumstances for every person, and especially every child, who participates in a US Youth Soccer affiliated activity; is a program to inform all US Youth Soccer volunteers and employees concerning the risks associated with youth programs.
THE KIDSAFE PROGRAM OF US YOUTH SOCCER AND ITS AFFILIATES MUST, AT A MINIMUM, MAKE EVERY REASONABLE EFFORT TO INCLUDE...
- written polices;
- a point person with annn alternate;
- a law enforcement liason;
- approved practices of, hiring, training, supervision, investigation and firing/dismissing.
PROGRAM MISSION
To promote health, safety and protection of children in the game of soccer, US Youth Soccer has adopted the following objectives:
1. To identify all coaches and program administrators;
2. To develop and communicate the KidSafe guidelines to all coaches and program administrators;
3. To monitor the implementation of the above objectives.
It is the intent of US Youth Soccer and its affiliated organizations to exclude from participation in US Youth Soccer activities, at a minimum, all persons who have been convicted of crimes of violence or crimes against persons.
PROGRAM ELEMENTS
1. Registration with the state associations of all coaches and administrators of state and local programs, and registration with US Youth Soccer of all coaches and administrators of regional and national programs;
2. Questioning all coaches and program administrators concerning conviction of crimes of violence or crimes against persons;
3. Development of health and safety guidelines as needed;
4. Publication of a booklet ("The KidSafe Program: Making Soccer Safer for Youth") containing the suggested health and safety guidelines, and distribution of the booklet to all US Youth Soccer teams, clubs, associations and programs;
5. Promotion of ongoing educational activities to support the KidSafe program at the national, state and local levels.
